Ward Member Experience

by Tom Reed

My family history journey has reinforced two important truths: (1) Never give up, and (2) The Lord always will put people in your life to help you. I have had information on my mother’s father for 45 years. My mother and her siblings were unable to relate any further information, and I was not successful using the genealogical library of information to advance my grandfather’s line.  When our Stake realigned Ward bounderies our family became part of the Homestead Ward. This move has been a wonderful blessing in several ways; one of the most significant is getting to know Marion Wolfert.

My mother’s parents are German and my grandfather immigrated from Germany in the early 1900s.  Armed with vital information, I thought it would be easy to discover relatives in his line. I was stymied. I could not find the town where my grandfather was born and, therefore was unable to proceed. The town listed on the records I had was Wluku and I concluded the town disappeared after two world wars, so that was that.

Visiting with Sister Wolfert, I was encouraged by the spirit to visit with her and see if there was a way she could assist me. That visit resulted in a miracle. Sister Wolfert studied the information and quickly determined that the town I was looking for didn’t exist, and that the spelling was probably incorrect. She corrected the spelling and found the town. I have taken 50 relatives to the temple to complete their work. I have another 100 to do the work for, and my relatives are coming to me each week as ordinances are completed. Temple attendance is important, and going to the temple with your relatives is an exciting and spiritual experience. Don’t give up and always listen to promptings from the Lord.
